Celebrate a mortgage burning
with Sygan Lodge 6 Sept. 26-28

by MARIA CUMMINGS, Lodge 6

SYGAN, Pa. — The officers of Lodge 6 in Sygan are very proud to proclaim that we have successfully paid-off the mortgage on our club. After a devastating fire in April of 1982, in which everything but the bowling alley and its equipment was burned, Lodge 6 borrowed over $575,000 from the Society to rebuild. The building commenced and in the spring of 1984, the club room opened. In September of 1985 the Sunshine Room opened and Sygan began to shine. Twenty-two years later we have successfully paid-off the mortgage and we have great reason to celebrate!

We will honor the occasion with our Mortgage Burning Weekend Sept. 26-28. The celebration will begin with a welcome dance Friday, Sept. 26, from 8:30 until 11:30 p.m. Former Lodge 6 President Frank Palombi and the Goodtime Band will play all your favorite dance music. Admission will only be $3 per person, just as it was when the Sunshine Room opened in 1985. Please join us as we kick off an entire weekend of commemoration.

On Saturday, Sept. 27, Lodge 6 is hosting a Mortgage Burning Banquet. We have invited many special guests, including members of the Executive Committee and National Board. Plan to join us for dinner, a special program and of course, dancing. There will be a cash bar. The cost is $12 per person. This is a reservation-only event. Please contact Jim Curl at (412) 257-4007 for tickets.
Saturday’s festivities will include a buffet dinner, a slide show depicting the history of Lodge 6, testimonials of the perseverance of Lodge 6 members, entertainment provided by our current Lodge president and his band, the Larry Placek Combo, and of course the ceremonial “mortgage burning.” We hope many of our members and friends will participate in this gala celebration.

The recognition of this momentous event will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 28, with a Super Sunday Dance featuring our very own Western Pa. SNPJ Button Box Club, Jack Tady and JTB, and the Dan Klanica Band. All three groups will share the bandstand from 2 to 8 p.m. Admission is only $5 per person. The entire weekend can be enjoyed for only $20 per person. Call now to be a part of this very important weekend in Lodge 6 history.

Sygan Lodge 6 is also making preparations to host the 2008 SNPJ Eastern Bowling Tournament during the weekend of Oct. 17-19. You will find an entry form in this Prosveta issue. Please mail your entries to Tournament Secretary John Baselj as soon as possible so that we may accommodate your requests. The deadline for entries is Thursday, Sept. 18.

Ladies will be bowling on the lanes at the SNPJ Club in Sygan. Many will be happy to learn that we have purchased an automatic oiling machine for our bowling lanes. The men will bowl at Sports Haven Bowl in Bridgeville, Pa. Please watch future Prosveta issues for more information about the schedule of events for this fun-filled weekend.

Check out our web site, www.sygan.net, for more information about upcoming dances and special happenings at Lodge 6. Thank you in advance for supporting Lodge 6 activities in Sygan.
