CLEVELAND — Cleveland Athletic League officers, representatives and volunteers are busy preparing for the 45th annual Don Gorjup Open which will be played Saturday, May 23, at Rolling Green Golf Course in Huntsburg, Ohio. We’re praying to our angel, Don, for a warm and sunny day. In case you forgot how to get there, here are the directions:
If you’re coming from the Cleveland area, the course is on Mayfield Road (Rt. 322) approximately 30 miles east of I-271. Our Pennsylvania friends can access the course by taking the Ohio Turnpike west, exiting at Route 5 Warren (exit 209). Head north on Route 5 toward Warren and exit at Route 422, turn left, heading northwest to Route 528 and then turn right, heading north. Take this to Route 322 and turn left. The course will be one mile on your right. If you get lost, the phone number for the course is (440) 636-5171, or you can call me (216) 650-1279.
As you know, this is a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Check-in will begin at 8:15 a.m. at the pavilion, a.k.a. our headquarters, where you’ll get your starting hole assignment and goodie bags, and be able to sign up for the skins game. It’s usually a very busy area, so please arrive early.
We’ve chosen hole 12, a par-3, 145-yard beauty over the water, for our hole-in-one contest. There’s $5,000 waiting for anyone who can sink their ball on their first shot. The other par-3 holes will offer some wonderful prizes, if by chance you shoot that elusive hole-in-one. The Gorjup sisters will again be visiting all the golfers on the course for a photo-op and a toast to Don.
The day will conclude with a great steak dinner which includes a one-pound T-bone, baked potato, salad, roll and butter, coffee and dessert. Of course, the cash bar will be open all day to quench your thirst. Everyone looks forward to the drawing which is held at the conclusion of our event. Tickets will be available all day at the pavilion. Since this is our 45th year, we have a few surprises up our sleeves, so be sure to stick around until the end of the event. We look forward to seeing all of our friends Saturday, May 23.
