Strabane Lodge 138 recognized its 2008 and 2009 fraternal honorees during a May banquet. |
STRABANE, Pa. — Lodge 138 members recognized their 50-, 60- and 70-year honorees May 16. The festivities were held at the Fairview Sunset Room in Bridgeville, Pa., with music provided by the George Suhon Duo.
Since we usually have a banquet every two years, we recognized our 2008 and 2009 honorees. Our 2008 honorees included 50-year members Josephine (O’Shinsky) Davis and Carl Nagode; 60-year members Richard Kern, Rudy Martincic, John Pavlik and Peter Petronka; and 70-year members Tony Bole and Sophia Kern. The 2009 honorees are 50-year member Margaret “Peg” Mosurak; 60-year members Rose Cadez, Frances Dolence and Herman Mikec; and 70-year members Lillian Opeka, William Progar and Joseph Senkinc.
A big thank you to Carl Nagode, for bringing his button box. After a little coaxing, I was able to get SNPJ National Treasurer Robert Lawrence to play a few songs. Once the ice was broken, Carl finally gave in and played. Even George Suhon enjoyed playing Carl’s button box. Peg Mosurak also played for us during George’s break.
It was great to see old friends rekindle their friendships and share memories of the past while making new memories. It also was a pleasure to meet Josephine Davis from California. She is the daughter of former 138 Lodge Secretary Josephine O’Shinsky. Unfortunately, Josephine’s visit to Pennsylvania ended on a sad note. Her aunt, Edbina “Bini” Marple, passed away on May 18. Lodge 138 extends deepest sympathy to you, Josephine, and Edbina’s family.
I hope the honorees and their guests enjoyed the banquet. I truly enjoyed meeting with each and every one of you, and I hope to see you at a Lodge 138 event soon!
