“Let’s start at the very beginning,
a very good place to start.
When you read you begin with A-B-C,
when you sing you begin with DO-RE-MI!”
EUCLID, Ohio — Most of you know those words from the “The Sound of Music,” a musical based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp. It features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. Many songs from the musical have become standards, including the title song, “The Sound of Music,” “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things” and “Do-Re-Mi.” This is one of my favorite musicals, and I even had the opportunity to go on “The Sound of Music” Tour in Salzburg, Austria.
Under the direction of Shirley Ivancic Stall, the children of Youth Circle 2 will put on a performance consisting of songs from “The Sound of Music,” along with various polkas and waltzes. The Circle’s annual fall concert is set for Sunday, Nov. 15, in the lower hall of the Slovenian Society Home on Recher Ave. in Euclid. The doors will open at 1 p.m. and the concert will begin at 2.
The cost of the tickets is $7. Former Circle 2 members will be admitted at a discounted price of $5, and children under the age of 18 are free. I would love to see as many alumni there as possible to support their former group. Following the concert, we’ve asked some local musicians to help provide music for your listening pleasure. Sandwiches, desserts and beverages will be available for purchase.
Please come out for an enjoyable afternoon and help support the young children of SNPJ Youth Circle 2. If you need more information or are interested in purchasing tickets, please contact me by phoning (440) 749-4211 or e-mailing kat21_2@hotmail.com.
