STRABANE, Pa. — The table is set for the sixth annual Lou Progar Memorial Scholarship dinner and bowl sponsored by SNPJ Lodge 138, Brunswick Bowling and On The Ball Bowling. The Lou Progar Memorial Scholarship is available to youth members of Lodge 138 as a supplement to the general SNPJ Scholarship for first-year college students. All recipients will receive a scholarship in the amount of $300 in memory of the late Lou “BLP” Progar.
Congratulations to this year’s recipients, John Hofrichter and Stephen Rossero. We hope to see you and your family on March 20 for the event.
A spaghetti dinner will be served from 2 to 6 p.m. in the downstairs club room priced at $6 for adults and $3 for children. Youth Circle 19 members will also be hosting a bake sale.
Drawing tickets will be on sale for $5 per chance to participate in the celebrity bowl which will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are also available in advance, and will be sold until 3 p.m. Saturday. We will pull 16 tickets. These 16 winners will bowl two games, then the field will be cut to eight. These eight will bowl one game, then the field will be cut to the final four bowlers. The top four bowlers will draw to determine their celebrity partner.
The celebrities participating in this year’s bowl are PBA Pro Hall of Famer Johnny Petraglia, PBA Pro Team member Dennis Reale, and former Pittsburgh Steelers John Banaszak and Craig Bingham. One game will be bowled Baker-style between the top four bowlers and their celebrity doubles partners. First place wins $200, second place $150, third place $100 and fourth place $50.
We welcome everyone to take a chance! If this year’s crowd and participants are anything close to last year’s, the event promises to be memorable and filled with excitement.
This will be Johnny Petraglia’s last appearance at the Lou Progar Memorial Scholarship dinner and bowl. If you haven’t yet had a chance to attend this event, this is your last chance to meet a true bowling legend. Everyone who has had the opportunity to meet Johnny in person will agree that he is one class act.
We’d like to thank Tony Mendiola from On The Ball Bowling and all of his efforts that made this event possible throughout the years, as well as Johnny Petraglia for his time, generosity and support for the past six years. Johnny will always be welcome here in Strabane.
Various donated prizes will be awarded throughout the day. All proceeds will benefit the scholarship fund. Bowling tickets for the weekend events are $5 and can be obtained by calling Frank Mavrich at (724) 746-3549 or Shawn Sutton at (724) 986-8080. Donations of any kind are always welcome, and we look forward to seeing everybody here for this fun-filled day!
