Nominations open for SNPJ National Athletic Board

February 14, 2012 - Kevin Richards, SNPJ Fraternal Director

IMPERIAL, Pa. — The SNPJ Fraternal Department is currently accepting nominations for the National Athletic Board. This body regulates and manages the athletic programs, tournaments and events of SNPJ. The National Athletic Board is a six-member body that meets twice per year, at the National Bowling Tournament, usually held in late April or early May, and at National SNPJ Days during Labor Day weekend.

Candidates must be an SNPJ member in good standing for at least two years. He or she must have practical knowledge of the Society’s major athletic activities. Athletic Directors play an important role in our Society; they are aware of athletic needs in their district, and they encourage participation from youth and adult members in both local and national competition. Athletic Directors oversee all regional and national tournaments, and they report activities at the two National Athletic Board meetings.

The Society has six athletic districts:
District 1 includes Cambria, Somerset, Luzerne, Fayette, Washington, Westmoreland, Indiana, Elk, Warren and Armstrong counties of Pennsylvania, and the states of New York and Florida.
District 2 includes Allegheny and Beaver counties of Pennsylvania.
District 3 includes the Borough of SNPJ,Butler and Mercer counties of Pennsylvania, and Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbia, Belmont and Stark counties of Ohio.
District 4 includes Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Lake, Portage and Summit counties of Ohio.
District 5 includes the state of Michigan.
District 6 includes the states of Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Members of the Athletic Board receive $225 per year for their services, and $225 per diem to attend each of the two National Athletic Board meetings, plus mileage.

Candidates to the National Athletic Board can be nominated by any SNPJ Lodge or Federation. The candidate need not be a member of the nominating Lodge, but they must be a member of a Lodge in the district they will be representing. Each Lodge or Federation may nominate only one candidate.

To nominate a candidate for the National Athletic Board, the Lodge or Federation must submit the candidate’s name, address, Lodge number and policy number to the Fraternal Director via standard mail or e-mail by March 23. The directors will be elected by the SNPJ National Board at their March 30 meeting.
