SAMSULA, Fla. — Just around the corner now, Florida SNPJ Days/Samsula Polka Festival arrives at SNPJ Lodge 603, located in beautiful downtown Samsula. The festivities are scheduled March 2-4.

On Friday, March 2, we plan to open the Lodge 603 Hall at 4 p.m. and music for the evening will feature Ron Luznar and the Polka Pals until 8 p.m. Friday admission is $5 at the door. The Lodge bar will be open, serving your liquid pleasures.

You’ll want to bring a good appetite so you can enjoy a meal or two from our kitchen. Along with the menu each day, the Lodge 603 cooks will also offer Slovenian klobase and sauerkraut, pierogies, cabbage rolls, apple strudel and a sandwich plate, along with a la cart items and coffee.

Visit us in the kitchen area, where Ruth and George Benedict, Bill Tomazin and yours truly will be heading up the cooking detail. Several Lodge members and community volunteers will help take orders and serve, so bring a hearty appetite.

The Lodge hall will open at noon Saturday, March 3, and the entertainment will continue until 9 p.m. as Marc Bouchard and his orchestra take to the stage. You’ll want to enjoy a meal or sandwich plate on arrival, and then sit back and enjoy the music. Admission at the gate is $10 on Saturday.

Jam sessions are planned throughout the day, and you won’t want to miss a minute of our celebration. Come help us continue the celebration of our 85th year as a chartered SNPJ Lodge. SNPJ National Secretary Karen Pintar will be extending greetings from our Home Office in Imperial, Pa., and Miss SNPJ Danielle Brand will also be visiting our Lodge, coming from Lodge 6 in Sygan, Pa.

Debbie and Clay Benedict will be heading up the Saturday cooking detail, and they have some tasty treats planned. You’ll want to eat several times throughout the day, sampling our local cooking. Nancy Bass will take over the cooking detail in the late afternoon.

On Sunday, March 4, the Lodge hall will be open from noon until 6 p.m. The music will start somewhere in the neighborhood of 1 p.m. and continue until 6, again featuring Marc Bouchard and his orchestra. Sunday admission is $8 at the gate.
We have special entertainment lined up throughout the weekend featuring the musical talents of Tony Klepec and Bob Turcola. Ted Perkovich will be bringing several musicians with him from Palm Coast to fill in when the bands are on break. If you have a button box or any musical instrument and would like to join in, there’s always a place for you. It certainly makes for good entertainment!

Florida SNPJ Days are a fun time for everyone, and we hope you’ll come and bring several of your friends so they can enjoy themselves. Pauline Lockwood is preparing a Sunday dinner that will be served from noon until 2 p.m. Pauline is serving as event chairman this year and has organized a terrific weekend. Linda Cubbedge will be in charge of the welcome table, registering our members and their guests.

We are happy to report that Lodge 603 Secretary Mary Ann Reichel is doing much better and back to her secretarial duties for our Lodge. Don’t forget to send in local Lodge dues of $6 for the year to Mary Ann, addressed to 437 North Samsula Dr., New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168.

Pauline Lockwood has scheduled the date of Tuesday, Feb. 28, starting at 6 p.m. to make cabbage rolls for SNPJ Days and to set up the Lodge 603 Hall for our celebration. Members and volunteers are asked to lend a helping hand. It’s always appreciated.

There are a few motels in New Smyrna Beach located close to our Lodge hall. Several LaQuinta and Clarion motels are located in Port Orange and Daytona Beach (International Dr.), and the Best Western in Edgewater, Fla., is also nearby. For additional help, phone Pauline at (386) 428-8868. The phone number for the Lodge 603 Hall is (386) 428-3983. See you soon!
