There's fun in the making at Fontana Lodge 723
February 14, 2012 - Jean Turnbull, Lodge 723 Vice President
FONTANA, Calif. — Lodge 723 is looking forward to a year filled with activities. Our monthly jam sessions have been very successful, bringing many new people and musicians. These sessions have brought many people out to dance, play and have a good time. The attendance has been growing month by month with new musicians and dancers. This event is coordinated by Frank Rote. Food is available at all the jam sessions.
On St. Patrick’s Day weekend, Polka Power California will be playing both Saturday and Sunday. This band is from Northern California and they always bring a good crowd. Details for this event can be found in the “Up-and-Coming” section of this PROSVETA issue.
On Sunday, April 15, the Fontana Slovene Hall will celebrate its 75th anniversary with a dinner dance and other activities. Music will be provided by Fred Mlakar and the Oberkreiners. The Fontana Slovene Hall, which was built by many SNPJ members, has a rich history and has grown over the years. Originally, the bar was in the basement. The hall now has a full kitchen, bar and dance hall which support all events. We encourage members to provide information regarding the history of the hall so this can be shared at the event.
On Memorial Day weekend, the Fontana Slovene Hall will be hosting a Polkafest with music by the Gruber Family Band of Northern California. The Memorial Day weekend Polkafest is an annual tradition that is well attended and enjoyable for all.
Good Slovenian food and pastries will be available for all of the above events.
Lodge 723 is sponsoring an ongoing food drive. There will be containers for food donations at all dances and scheduled events. The food will be delivered to local food banks on an ongoing basis. Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to all events.
We hope to see many of you at these events to enjoy great Slovenian music, food and friends.
