Lodge 355 treating dad to a day at the SNPJ Farm

FAIRPORT HARBOR, Ohio — Fairport Lodge 355 will host a picnic and dance at the SNPJ Farm in Kirtland, Ohio, on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19, from noon until 7 p.m. Bring your father or granddad out to the Farm to enjoy a family affair with good Slovenian-cooked food, and Slovenian polkas and waltzes.
The SNPJ Farm is located on Heath Road, south off Route 6, two miles east of Route 306 and three miles west of Auburn Road. The gate opens at noon and the gate fee is $6; there is no charge for youths age 16 and under. The Ladies Auxiliary will cook delicious roast beef and sausage dinners the traditional Slovenian way. Dinners will be served starting at 2 p.m. for $8 each. Lodge members will help serve these delicious meals, along with hot dogs, roast beef and sausage sandwiches, as well as krofe. The bar will have the usual assortment of beverages including the Laško beer from Slovenia.
Bob Kravos and the Boys in the Band will play music for your dancing and listening pleasure from 3 to 7 p.m. The Boys in the Band have received several awards for their many recordings. Bob Kravos is the great nephew of Frank Yankovic. The band will play Yankovic favorites, and Slovenian polkas and waltzes, as well as other music.
The SNPJ Farm has many other features for the young and young-at-heart such as balina courts, swings, horseshoe pits, slides, bean bag toss boards, a round-about and lots of green space for a country walk. This is a chance to show your children and grandchildren the arts of lagging and hitting in the Slovenian game of balina (also known as the Italian game of bocce). Perhaps the children can do the same with the bean bag toss for their parents.
There are many picnic tables around the pavilion, plus places in the sun for lawn chairs to listen to the music, talk, be with relatives and friends, and have fun on this special day for dads and grandfathers. All of these activities are a reminder that the original name of this picnic site was the SNPJ Recreation Grounds.
Fairport Lodge 355 invites everyone to come out to the Farm with your father, family, relatives and friends for a wonderful picnic dance. There will be excellent food and beverages, superb music for your dancing and listening pleasure, and many other recreational activities for everyone.
