BOROUGH OF SNPJ, Pa. — Can you believe another summer season is over? The SNPJ Slovenian Heritage Center would like to thank everyone who stopped by to visit our museum, and a big thank you to those who purchased items from our gift shop. We appreciate your patronage.

We had another busy season with our traveling museum display, taking the exhibit to the Slovenian Embassy in Washington, D.C., on May 13; to Simply Slavic in Youngstown, Ohio, on June 17; and to the American Slovene Day picnic in Cheswick, Pa., on July 30. We also provided an hour-long wine and cheese reception on the Wednesday of each Family Week, as well as during Senior Week.

Let’s not forget Heritage Weekend, held June 9-10, for which we provided the music. We were quite busy during the Slovenefest weekend as well, when we always enjoy seeing so many of our SNPJ friends. And, of course, our museum and gift shop were open every Saturday in June, July and August.

As the summer season comes to a close, make plans for one more great weekend at the SNPJ Recreation Center during Labor Day weekend. Join your friends in the Gostilna Friday, Sept. 1, as the Polka Bros perform from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday night, Sept. 2, features the barn dance with Patty C & The Guys playing from 7 to 10 p.m. and a jam session to follow.

This event is compliments of the Heritage Center and is presented as a throwback to the jam sessions that took place in the barn in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The annual picnic and dance in the Heritage Pavilion completes the weekend. Admission is free, compliments of the Heritage Center, with the Joe Grkman and Frank Stanger orchestras alternating from 2 to 8 p.m.

The month of September wraps-up with the annual Wine & Sausage Fest on Sept. 30. The Heritage Center will have a booth set up with Slovenian wine that we’ll be sharing with everyone in attendance. Ĺ˝ivio!
