Lodge 786 making plans for holiday activities

September 26, 2017 - by JEAN KOCI, Lodge 786 Secretary/Treasurer

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. — More than 20 members and guests attended the Lodge 786 meeting Sept. 10 at the home of Ken and Teresa Koci in Laguna Niguel, Calif. The hosts greeted everyone warmly and the meeting started pretty much on time, even with all of the appetizers and “hellos.” It’s always a good time when we get together.

We kicked off our October charity project with some nice donations to Vocational Visions, then reported on our young adult scholarship recipients. It was also nice to report that almost all of the leftover wine from our June wine tasting event had been sold, making the outcome better than we had previously reported.

We had a number of volunteers sign up for the Vinska Trgatev hosted by the California Federation on Nov. 5. Chairman Fred Mlakar gave a good preview of what is needed and what the event will consist of. He also brought us up-to-date on Society business and the status of the SNPJ Recreation Center.

Since Fred had spent several weeks in Slovenia and the surrounding areas, he also entertained us with photos and stories of some of his experiences. Thanks, Fred. Everyone enjoyed your presentation. We also enjoyed the pasta dinner prepared by Teresa and the extra dishes brought by members and friends.

Everyone is invited to take part in an afternoon of social bowling on Nov. 24, the day after Thanksgiving. We’ll combine this event with the Family Twosome Bowling Tournament for our youth members who team up with member parents or grandparents. There will be no fee for youth bowling or for their dinner afterward at California Pizza Kitchen, just across the street from Saddleback Lanes in Mission Viejo, Calif.  More details will follow as reservations are made, but we hope you plan to come and enjoy this special outing, SNPJ member or not!

Also, please mark your calendar for the Lodge 786 Christmas party, planned Sunday, Dec. 3, in Laguna Woods, Calif. Invitations will be sent, but I want to make sure you keep the date open for this special annual meeting and party.

Until next time, na svidenje!
